The third great cyclopean citadel of the Argolid after Mycenae and Tiryns, crowning a 268 m conical hill: its circuit of enormous unworked and hammer-dressed conglomerate boulders runs ~450 m with walls 5-7 m thick and two gates. Terraces inside carried megaron-type buildings that yielded Linear B; the rich Dendra cemetery (source of the Dendra panoply) was its necropolis. Whether earthquake or attack destroyed it c. 1200 BCE is debated.
