Ancient stone-lined irrigation channel on Kauai with precisely fitted, cut-and-dressed basalt blocks resembling polygonal masonry traditions in Peru and Türkiye. The visible section is about 60 meters long. Local tradition again attributes the work to the Menehune. The precision of the stone-fitting is unique within Polynesian construction, which typically uses uncut stones. Mainstream archaeology dates the work to pre-contact Hawaii; independent investigators question the chronology and the cultural attribution.
