Remote Dorian city on Kastri hill in southwest Crete, defended by polygonal masonry walls roughly half a mile long forming two 'cyclopic' circuits, with gate passages protected by projecting flanking walls. A temple of Pan stood on the acropolis; the east and south sides rely on sheer terrain.
