Dharmrajeshwar Temple

RockcutAsiaIndia

Top-down rock-cut monolithic temple in Mandsaur district, Madhya Pradesh, carved from a single rock outcrop in a manner directly comparable to Kailasa Temple at Ellora and the Lalibela churches in Ethiopia. Much less famous than either, but the technique connects three continents.

Look Closer — this site carries open questions: stones heavier than the period's tools could lift; stones fitted without mortar, almost no gap; geometry beyond period explanation. See scale across the Atlas →
