Monumental gate of ancient Messene in the Peloponnese, built ~369 BCE. Two massive polygonal blocks form the gate uprights; the surviving threshold preserves chariot-wheel ruts cut into the stone. Part of one of the largest surviving classical fortification systems in Greece.
