Late Hellenistic / Roman city in Gaziantep Province, founded c. 300 BCE by Seleucus I Nicator at the crossing of the Euphrates. Most famous for the 'Gypsy Girl' mosaic, often compared to the Mona Lisa for its expressive gaze. The Zeugma Mosaic Museum houses thousands of square meters of recovered Roman floor mosaics. Much of the lower city was flooded by the Birecik Dam reservoir in 2000.
