Zedekiah's Cave

Massive man-made limestone cave system beneath the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, extending 230 m into the bedrock under the Temple Mount. Traditionally attributed to King Solomon's quarries (1000 BCE). Local legend holds it was the escape route used by King Zedekiah when fleeing Babylonian siege in 587 BCE. Tool-mark analysis and the precision of the chamber walls invite older or alternative readings.
Look Closer — this site carries open questions: stones heavier than the period's tools could lift; stones fitted without mortar, almost no gap.
