Ta Keo

PyramidAsiaCambodiac. 975 CEKhmer Empire

Cambodia's 'Lightning Pyramid' — a five-tier pyramid built from an unusually hard, near-white sandstone found nowhere else in the Khmer corpus. Officially dated to 975 CE, attributed to Jayavarman V, and said to be unfinished after a lightning strike. Tight moat, hundreds of lathed spindles, carved mounting sockets, and a direct hydrological link to the East Baray suggest a far more deliberate (and possibly earlier) function.
