UNESCO-listed Buddhist cave complex near Dunhuang, Gansu. 735 caves carved into a 1.6 km cliff face along the Silk Road, with murals covering 45,000 square meters of wall surface and over 2,400 painted clay sculptures. Active 4th-14th centuries CE.
