Manazan Caves & Taşkale Granaries

Two adjacent rock-cut complexes in Karaman Province, in central southern Turkey. The Manazan Caves form a multi-level cliff-side settlement with linked chambers carved into vertical rock. The Taşkale Granaries are hundreds of precisely-cut rectangular grain storage chambers carved into a cliff face, still used by local farmers today. The granaries' precision and the scale of the cliff excavation invite comparison with similar rock-cut storage at sites across the wider Anatolian and Mesopotamian region.
