Ancient city in Bursa Province, site of the First Council of Nicaea (325 CE) and the Second Council of Nicaea (787 CE). Recent discoveries include a hidden Roman mosaic revealed during excavation. Multiple construction layers: Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman. The submerged basilica of St. Neophytos in Lake Iznik was rediscovered in 2014.
