533-meter rock-cut water tunnel in the City of David, Jerusalem, carved through solid bedrock to bring water from the Gihon Spring to the Pool of Siloam within the city walls. Dated by inscription to the reign of King Hezekiah (8th century BCE). The tunnel was excavated from both ends simultaneously — two teams of workers met in the middle, the meeting point still visible. The Siloam Inscription describing this is one of the oldest extant Hebrew inscriptions.
