Largest Maya archaeological site in Belize. Caana ('sky-house') pyramid is the tallest man-made structure in Belize at 43 m. Caracol defeated Tikal in a Late Classic war (562 CE). At its peak the urban area covered 200 km² with an estimated population of 150,000. Extensive system of agricultural terraces and reservoirs.
